The encryption Avast SecureLine VPN offers is AES 256-bit, which is military-grade. This is the best encryption strength you can find on the commercial market, which means anyone trying to access your data is going to have a very tough time.

As far as keeping your information secure in the VPN, Avast SecureLine has you covered here as well. They provide you with DNS leak protection with your subscription, so nothing is ever going to leak outside of the VPN boarders without your knowledge.

No Logs of Your Activity

​One of the downsides of using a VPN is that it slows everything down. There’s no way around this. Using a VPN means you’re essentially trading a bit of speed for security.

The information you’re accessing has to take an extra step before it reaches your computer. Naturally, this is going to slow down your internet connection.

How much speed you give up will depend on the VPN, though. Avast SecureLine VPN is one of the better VPNs regarding keeping your ping, download speed, and upload speed as close to their natural numbers as possible.

You probably won’t notice much of a difference when using the VPN server closest to your location with Avast SecureLine VPN. You will start to notice slower speeds, though, when you chose a different server to host your web browsing.

The importance of your ping, upload, and download speed will depend on what you’re using the internet for. Those who are trying to compete in a video game might find that the ping and download speed are too high when using certain VPNs.

From our testing, it doesn’t appear that Avast SecureLine VPN will make a huge difference in your internet experience. Avast SecureLine VPN boasts that they have some of the fastest VPN servers out there, and it looks like their claims are legitimate.

Torrenting

​One of the reasons a lot of users choose to hide their information with a VPN is to access torrenting sites and software without getting into trouble with their ISP. Some VPNs won’t allow you to access P2P (peer to peer) downloads while using the service.

Avast SecureLine VPN doesn’t have this issue. You can connect to P2P networks through some of the server locations - though not all of them.

​One of the ways that the Avast SecureLine VPN sets itself apart from the pack is in the customer service department.

There are a large number of helpful FAQs and articles that can walk you through nearly any issue you encounter. They also have a 24/7 support hotline for any pressing issues that they don’t address through the “help” tab.

The call service isn’t automated either. You will speak to an actual person and discuss your problem. They’ll walk you through the fix and get you back onto the internet with a secure VPN.

The only downside to the Avast customer support is the lack of a live chat or email feature. Live chats are more convenient than sitting on the phone for a lot of people.

Avast is responsive, though, which is more than we can say for the support staff of a lot of other major VPN providers.

​The Avast SecureLine VPN isn’t all sunshine and roses. There are a couple of areas where the service can improve a bit.

Here are some of the things we didn’t like about Avast SecureLine.

No Router Option

​Some VPNs will allow you to connect the network to your router, which will protect all of the devices in your home from security threats. This is a nice touch, but one that’s, unfortunately, lacking with Avast SecureLine VPN.

You will only be able to protect individual computers, phones, and tablets while using Avast SecureLine. This is more than enough for the bulk of the VPN market, but it’s still worth mentioning here.

One area that will remain vulnerable with Avast SecureLine is your gaming console. An Xbox or PlayStation connects to the internet while you’re playing, and Avast SecureLine doesn’t work on such devices. Only a router connection will allow you to remain hidden and safe while gaming on a console.

People who are streaming their games to a large audience from their console will likely want to take a look at another VPN. This is a niche audience, but the router support feature is still nice to have.

We wouldn’t suggest looking for another VPN option if router support isn’t important to you, though. It’s a small area of concern, but not one that will turn too many people away.

No Netflix Capabilities

​One of the downsides of using almost any VPN is that you’re going to have some trouble accessing Netflix. Netflix doesn’t like it when you use VPNs because you’re able to throw your location. This will give you access to content that might not be available in your location, which Netflix aims to prevent.

Avast SecureLine VPN is one in a long list of VPNs that don’t support Netflix connections. You’ll get an error when you try to stream from the service, but that’s nothing new to anyone who has used a VPN in the past.

A select few VPNs can access Netflix and those that can usually don’t have an infinite lifespan. Netflix gets wise to the VPN tactics and eventually blocks them after a while. In fact, Avast SecureLine worked with Netflix when it first came out. Unfortunately, that’s no longer the case.

Lack of Server Locations

​We touched on the internet speeds when talking about the positives of Avast SecureLine VPN. Sure, the service offers superior speeds when you’re close to one of the host servers, but not everyone will be so lucky.

There is a lot of server support in the United States, which is nice, but the global Avast SecureLine server support is a bit lacking when we compared it with other products.

This won’t be an issue if you’re based in the US but can be a bit of a hassle for those who are too far away from a VPN server. Your download speeds will be a lot slower than normal, and your ping could be through the roof.

Like the lack of router support, this won’t be too much of an issue for most people. It’s still worth taking a look at the closest VPN server location before committing, though.

​Pricing Information

​You have a couple of different options when subscribing to the Avast SecureLine VPN. Most VPN companies price their plans on time frames, but Avast SecureLine is a bit different. They charge you on a yearly basis based on which devices you want to secure.

The most bang for your buck comes with the five-device deal for $79.99. This is a yearly subscription that will cover five PCs, laptops, or mobile devices. You can also choose to secure three devices for a slightly lower price, although it’s a higher price-per-device rate.

If you want to buy Avast SecureLine on a single computer, you’re looking at $59.99 a year. For smartphones or other mobile devices, you’ll pay $19.99 a year for a single connection.

You can only pay through standard methods, however, which means you can’t use your crypto stash on this VPN. A lot of other companies in the space allow for such purchases, but that’s not the end of the world.

As far as perks, Avast SecureLine VPN Review provides users with a seven-day free trial that doesn’t require you to put in any payment info. This is a great feature since a lot of subscription trials - even outside of the VPN space - like to make some extra money from people who forget to cancel the free subscription.

You will also be able to utilize the 30-day refund if you’re not satisfied with the service. We should note, though, that there are a couple of restrictions here. You have to have connected fewer than 100 times and can’t have uploaded or downloaded of 10GB of data during the 30 days.

​The Avast SecureLine is a decent option if you’re looking for a VPN, though there are a few areas where they could improve.

As we’ve covered in our Avast SecureLine VPN review, some of the better features include a fast internet connection, a leak-free VPN, the ability to torrent, and some above-average customer support.

Those who are looking for router support or a VPN that allows you to stream Netflix should look elsewhere, though.

For the price, we would recommend Avast SecureLine VPN to those who don’t care about the few shortcomings it has.
